Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren
Leadership Team Meeting
March 19, 2020
Present: Ann Healy, Joe LaPrade, Amy Saum, Zack Wampler, Brian Whitmore, Bill Wood. Ex-Officio: Pastor Ryan Cooper-Pastor, Darlene LaPrade-Church Clerk, Tess Southerly. Absent: Deborah Hoover, John Jordan, Kenny Wheelbarger.
Zack called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Ryan opened with prayer.
The minutes from the February meeting were approved.
Joe gave an overview of the finances. This included the giving and expenses for the past two months as well as surplus funds available. After some discussion about the plans for collecting tithes and offerings in the coming months when we will not be able to meet, a motion was made to authorize the Finance Team to set up on online platform for giving. The motion was seconded and was approved. Members will have the options for giving online through the bank, drop offerings off to the church office, mail offerings to church office or using the online platform that will be set up. The online platform offers a 30-day free trial. The goal is to have this option available by March 29.
Pastor Ryan will continue to stream the sermon online. Other ways to reach out to members were discussed. A suggestion was made to have a Love Feast on the first Sunday back as a congregation. This would include breakfast, devotions, feet washing, and communion to be held in the basement. This will be advertised so members know what to expect.
The recommendation from the District Office is for each congregation to decide how to handle holding services. A motion was made to have our sunrise service outside with 6 ft. between family units. The motion was seconded and was approved.
A motion was made to follow the governor’s guidelines for gatherings until the next Leadership Team meeting at which time we will meet to reevaluate on a month to month bases. The motion was seconded and approved.
Plans for a congregational care team to check on congregational needs during this time of uncertainty are underway. The Deacons are asking for volunteers to help with checking on sick, shut-ins, or any other needs of the congregation. This would involve making one phone call a day to check on members.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
