Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren
Leadership Team Meeting
September 24, 2015

Present: Evy Kaye Sandin, Bill Wood, Candy Hulvey, Bill Eckard, Sean Dunn, Jane Cyzick, Theresa Eckard, Deborah Hoover, Charles Wright. Ex – officio: Glenn Bollinger – Pastor, Donna Miller – Treasurer, Dana Suter – Church Clerk. Absent: Jeanette Hess.

Evy Kaye called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. Theresa Eckard led the group in devotions and a prayer.

The minutes from the July and August Leadership Team meetings were approved. The Treasurer’s reports from the July and August Leadership Team meetings were approved. The master calendar was updated.

Focus Team Reports:

Christian Ed. & Discipleship: No report.

Congregational Connection: Sean read a draft of a letter to be presented at the Fall Congregational Business Meeting. The members of the Congregational Connection team believe their functions during the worship hour do not require focus team status or Leadership Team representation.

Facilities: Bill Eckard reported that a church clean-up day was held last Saturday. There have been 11 church pews repaired to date. Additional pews will be taken out for repair beginning next week.

Fellowship: Deborah Hoover reported that the Brethren Woods Church Retreat was a success and the Fellowship Team is looking at possible dates available for next year. The last movie night was not well attended. The Fellowship Team may plan a hayride if a date is available.

Finance: Charles Wright reported that the Finance Team had met with Dan Martin, CPA and would be setting up another meeting with Dan soon. Evy Kaye asked if the Finance Team would look at the giving versus the budget for this year.

Outreach and Missions: No report.

Ministry: No report.

Worship: Candy Hulvey reported that plans have been finalized for the Spiritual Renewal this weekend. Hymnal supplements have been purchased for the choir.

Deacon’s Report: Donna Miller reported that the deacon’s assisted with the baptism of five youth on Sept. 13. There will be a joint Love Feast at Montezuma COB on October 4 with Mt. Bethel COB and Montezuma COB.

Pastor’s Report: Glenn reported that Montezuma COB has recently hired a youth pastor, Gabe Dodd. Gabe has expressed interest in joint youth events with Beaver Creek and Mt. Bethel youth. Pastor Glenn brought up some concerns with a church in our district that is in violation of the COB polity.

Unfinished Business: There were 2 additional changes made to the polity.

Page 10, Article V – #10 – Change the first word “review” to ”approve”. Sean made a motion to accept the change. Bill Eckard seconded the motion and the motion passed.

Page 6, Article IX, #1 – Change the last sentence to read as follows: “This team operates independently and the ballot does not need approval from the Pastor or the Leadership Team prior to going before the congregation”. Sean made a motion to accept the change. Candy seconded the motion and the motion passed.

The final approval of the polity changes will be voted on at the October Leadership Team meeting. Evy Kaye reported that the LaPrades and the Woods have agreed to serve as deacons for the 2016-2018 term and two additional units are needed.

The results of the Facilities discussions were handed out to team members.

Evy Kaye reminded team members that annual reviews of the pastor, secretary, treasurer, and custodian should be completed.

New Business: On October 11, using the same format as the discussions on the Facilities needs, the Leadership Team will gain feedback during the Sunday School hour on the spiritual life of the church.

Evy Kaye led the group in a prayer. The next Leadership Team meeting is October 15, 2015 at 7:00 pm. The meeting was adjourned at 8:58 pm.

The pastor’s salary package was reviewed in closed session.
