Leadership Team Meeting
August 17, 2017
Present: Brad Eckard, Ann Healy, Deborah Hoover, Diane Miller, Theresa Eckard, Joe LaPrade, Darlene LaPrade. Ex-officio: Roger Simmons, Elaine McGann – Interim Pastor, Dana Suter – Church Clerk. Absent: Bill Eckard, Jeanette Hess, and Donna Miller – Treasurer.
Brad Eckard called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.
Elaine led the group in devotions and prayer.
The minutes from last month’s meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved.
Calendar Update: Sept. 3 – Sunday School Teacher recognition, First Sunday Offering designated for the Bridgewater/Stokesville area food pantries, and Bibles presented to third graders, Sept. 10 – Homecoming, Sept. 30 – Men’s Fellowship Steak Dinner, Oct. 1 – Joint Love Feast with Montezuma COB to be held at Beaver Creek.
Facilities Team: Roger reported that the Facilities Team is beginning to make a list of work that will need to be done at the parsonage.
Finance: Joe reported that the Finance Team needs the budgets for all the focus teams before the September LT meeting.
Worship: Ann Healy reported that plans are underway for the Homecoming Worship Service. Adrienne Whiteside, choir director, will be able to attend the full choir practice due to her getting a new job. Ann made a plea for new choir members. The choir begins practicing again on August 30 at 7:30 pm. Advent and Lent devotionals have been ordered.
Outreach: Diane Miller reported that plans are being made for the Beaver Creek Cares weekend on November 3 -4. The Sadie Rose Foundation and White Birch Estates have been contacted and Diane asked for other possible outreach opportunities.
Christian Education & Discipleship: Darlene reported that they still need a couple of Sunday school teachers for the Cradle Room and Pre K – Kindergarten.
Fellowship: Deb Hoover reported that the All-Church Retreat was a success with a good turnout.
Pastor’s Report: Elaine reported that Montezuma COB Pastor, David Miller, had asked her if Beaver Creek wanted to help with Open Doors on Nov. 13 and 14. Deb Hoover will find out if there is enough interest and follow up with Pastor Miller. Elaine inquired about the need for child care during the Joint Love Feast. Joe LaPrade will make sure there is childcare available.
Homecoming Report: Ann reported that the five members of the Homecoming Committee have organized their committee as follows: Ann – Communications, Denise Shiflet – Church history commemoration, Bonnie Sue and Joyce Wright – Dining and clean-up, and Abby Wampler – Decorations (may need an additional helper). Jane Wood is finishing the fourth wall hanging to be presented that day.
New Business:
There was discussion last month about increasing the wages of the church’s secretary. Deb Hoover made a motion to increase the pay rate by .75 cents an hour. Joe seconded the motion and the motion passed.
Brad Eckard presented a letter from Bill Wood, Executor of the estate of Frances and Lewis Cook. The letter states that Beaver Creek COB is the recipient of an undesignated monetary gift in the amount of $30,381. Ann made a motion to accept the gift and Deb Hoover seconded the motion and the motion passed. The LT will decide on a recommendation as to the disbursement of the money at next month’s meeting to present to the congregation at the October Congregational Business Meeting.
The next Leadership Team meeting is September 21 at 7:00 pm. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15 pm.
